The Authors

This book has been written by two great-great-grandchildren of Elizabeth Children Diprose and Thomas Diprose, Elizabeth Parkes and Jean Doggett (who lives in England), with help from many people. We are great-grandchildren of Isaac and Elizabeth Diprose. The significance of the term ‘Strangers’ in the title is explained in the introduction to the book. This book is based on research done over forty years and we have long planned to publish the results. At last, we can share them with relations and other people who are interested. As well as giving the story of this very large family, the book attempts to put the lives of its members into the context of the times in England and Australia.

Book structure

This book will be over 700 pages. Because of this large number of pages, it was decided to split the book into 2 volumes:

Volume 1 (about 500 pages) is to be in book form (hardcover). It is A4 in size (297 mm x 210 mm).

Volume 2 (about 250 pages) contains the biographies of Thomas and Elizabeth Diprose’s great-grandchildren (the third generation) and is to be on a CD inserted in the back of Vol. 1. The CD will be created for use with Windows XP. The format will be as a PDF, which needs a free program, Adobe Reader, to run it.

NB. Volume 2 is also available in book form (hardcover) at extra cost.
Volume 2 cannot be bought separately from Volume 1.
Volume 2 is not self-contained and should be read in conjunction with Volume 1
